SOIL Dreams: If you had all the time and cash in the world and were to build an organization of your own what would you like to create?
If I was fortunate to have all the `cash and time in the world ` and given the opportunity to build an organization of my choice I would, without a moment’s hesitation, love to build self- dependent mini townships for the senior citizens of our nation, who in the sunset of their lives are being left to fend for themselves. The advent of nuclear families and lack of suitable employment opportunities in their immediate neighbourhood has forced youth to seek fresh employment opportunities in distant lands. The end result is the unfortunate ` orphaning ` of their own parents, at a time when their physical presence at home is most needed.
During my brief vacations over the past few years, whenever I visit my retired parents who are settled in Kerala, they make it a point to take me on visits to our other relatives settled elsewhere in the State. To my utter dismay, I have invariably noticed that though all of them are financially independent and well off, the sheer loneliness and absence of their children seem to have accelerated their aging. The total absence of emotional support provided by one’s children and grand children weighs heavily in their hearts, aggravating their age related health problems.
My townships would be designed to provide their occupants with the best of health care, comfortable housing, domestic assistance, specially designed transport that caters to their special needs, activities to keep them occupied, preferred choice of meals on call, communication and video facilities to stay connected with their loved ones, facilitate religious and social activities within their own communities, open green spaces, and a healthy natural environment. In short, I would make an attempt to provide them with a happy, trouble free life at the end of their innings which would cater to their emotional void as well.
